All the tricks for Sea Research with metal detectors – Part 1

This short series of articles will be useful to those who want to increase the probability of success in the search for gold and coins on the beach, both dry and on the shoreline and light immersion.

With the help of a simple example chart, we will try to give useful advice on HOW, WHEN and WHERE to look on the beach, especially during the winter and autumn season.

This does not mean that in particular conditions the classic places where you look at the end (or during) the summer season (See figure in point 9 – Line of umbrellas, points of sale, entrance areas, play areas, walkways, fences border between beaches, etc.) are not yet profitable.

However, it must be said that the accumulation of sand due to the wind and perhaps the systematic passage by other seekers, make the aforementioned places less productive. What you can see with pleasure is the continuous regeneration of some areas of the beach due mainly to the sea and weather conditions.

Let's go by order…

How to search with metal detector?

Carrying out the research nearby, if not even in the water, a metal detector would be indicated at least to be water-proof. If the research is limited to the shoreline we will have to try to use a model that in addition to the watertight coil, also has the ability to compensate for saline mineralization.

In this regard, both VLF metal detectors and Pulse Induction can be excellent solutions but, if you choose the VLF, you should expressly opt for a model that does not suffer too much from mineralization and salt water, so maybe choose a multifrequency model (such as, for example, a Garrett APEX), would be the best.

The Pulse Induction metal detector is certainly more suitable if the research area also has ferrous mineralization (black sands) and is right near the undertow or even in the water, and in any case you have to be patient and dig a little more since their discrimination is not as excellent as that of the VLFs.

Clothing is also important: waders (waterproof rubber overalls boots) for fishing will be ideal, especially if you decide to venture into the water. A sand scoop with a long handle will greatly facilitate the search.
