X-Terra PRO: Exploring a tin mine in Tasmania with Giulia

A new adventure for Giulia and her X-Terra PRO in Tasmania

Let's return to Tasmania with our Giulia, who, armed with a Minelab X-Terra PRO, takes us to visit an old tin mine in the wild parks of the Australian island.

After reaching the site by jeep through a dirt trail, our spokesperson is greeted by a breathtaking panorama: in the heart of the former mine stands the cobalt blue of a lake reservoir surrounded by dense vegetation and limestone rocks reminiscent of the bright white of tin.

On a barren and compact terrain scattered with:

  • old cartridges
  • assorted trash

near the now abandoned facility, Giulia treats us to some truly suggestive views.

Everywhere, blocks of concrete and strange rusted machinery, probably used for the extraction and processing of tin. It's an almost spectral scenario where nature is gradually reclaiming its spaces and where the anthropic signs of man, which once undisputedly dominated these valleys, are becoming increasingly faded.

Defying the fear of the many wild animals that populate this edge of Australia (some of them very dangerous like crocodiles and the highly venomous Taipan snakes), Giulia ventures into the Australian forests and, on a seemingly pristine trail, her metal detector suddenly sends a signal... it's an old rifle cartridge, a sign that firearms were very common in these territories.

A few meters away, another "beep-beep" generates new illusions, but the find reminds us that Australians, besides being passionate about firearms, have always been excellent beer drinkers...

But our Giulia's patience is ultimately rewarded: beneath the foliage, a commemorative coin from the Second World War appears. It's a rather recent object but aesthetically very beautiful. The long-awaited prize after a day of intense emotions...
