When Garrett launched the Vortex series, it didn’t simply introduce three new metal detectors.

With the Vortex metal detectors, Garrett introduced a new way of experiencing detection: a modular platform designed to support detectorists over time, adapting to their experience, goals, and search style.

The Vortex models represent a synthesis of over half a century of “Made in USA” research and development, all featuring the exclusive patented MD-MF technology (Multi Dimensional–Multi Frequency), a function never before used in metal detecting that is capable of analyzing:

conductivity
ferrous content of detected metallic targets.

All targets are detected using multiple simultaneous frequencies and analyzed across multiple dimensions of conductivity and ferrous (iron) content. This advanced MD-MF analysis is present in all three Vortex models, although it is most visible on the VX9 model, whose LCD display includes a multi-axis target ID with three distinct scales.
