Metal detector user guide for beginners

In this article you will find many practical tips for you who have just started practicing the hobby of metal detecting!

In this short column, I would like to help you, to approach this magnificent research activity in a simple, fun and above all practical way.

Let's start right away with the first suggestion.

Which metal detector for beginners to buy?

As for the purchase of your first instrument, I advise you to start practicing metal detecting with a simple machine and with not too high costs.

This is because the most sophisticated metal detectors certainly have better performance, but they are often also very complicated to use and require a long period of learning, especially for beginners.

Today there are several models for those approaching this hobby with a low price, excellent performance and very simple to use.

Ah... Don't forget!

When you decide to buy your metal detector, if it is not included in the package, spend a few euros more to protect it with a "plate cover", which will protect the coils from shocks, wear and tear and dirt, prolonging the operational life of your new "jewel"!

Do you need anything else to start the search?

It will seem obvious to you, but to practice metal detecting is not enough just a metal detector....

You will definitely also need one or more tool to dig and retrieve objects detected in the ground or on the beach.

Among the excavation objects we have:

For more information on excavation tools you can read the specific article: "Excavation tools useful for your research with metal detectors".

Another tool that I highly recommend as one of the first purchases to make is the portable Pinpointer.

It is a small portable metal detector that will signal you exactly the location of the targets with an acoustic signal or even with a vibration, increasing the speed of recovery of objects in the holes.

In addition there are some extra accessories that can really make you comfortable:

  • A backpack or carrying bag, to take with you the metal detector, the shovel, the Pinpointer and all the other accessories in a comfortable and practical way.
  • A display protector to protect your metal detector screen from scratches, rain, mud and dirt.
  • Headphones with or without wire, if they are not included in the package, which will help you hear even the weakest and deepest signals.
  • And last but not least, a few spare batteries, as long as your detector does not incorporate lithium batteries. In this case maybe buy a common Powerbank for mobile phone maybe at least 5000 mAh, to be able to recharge the batteries in case they are discharged during your research.

How should I dress when I go in search?

Wear comfortable but sturdy clothes, suitable for the type of environment where you are going to brush.

If you go to the woods, very often for example, it is easy to get entangled in branches or brambles... equipped therefore with a possibly anti-tear clothing.

If I want to go in search to the sea? How can I dress?

Depending on the season you can choose more or less light clothing.

But if you want more information on how to dress to go in search you can inform yourself through our specific article: "Suitable clothing for research with metal detectors".
